What is Carrier in Textile Wet Processing?
It is an organic compound that helps to take up dye at lower temperature and pressure over the textile material. Generally, disperse dyeing is done in three ways on hydrophobic fibers i.e. synthetic fibers. At the lowest temperature and pressure, the dyeing method is done with carrier dyeing.
The substances are divided into four chemical groups such as as-
- Primary amines,
- Starch,
- Phenolic groups,
- Hydrocarbons.
Functions of Carrier in Textile Dyeing or Wet Processing:
The key functions of the carrier have pointed out below:
- Carrier is sufficiently effective increasing dye take up.
- An ideal career should be readily available at an economical price and dye film on the surface of the fiber.
- It is non-toxic and increases swelling of the fiber.
- Should not cause shrinkage of the materials.
- Free from unpleasant odor and increase the solubility of the dye in the bath.
- It is easily removable after dyeing.
- It is non-volatile in steam and lubricants thermally agitated fiber molecules.
