Knit and Woven Fabric Consumption Calculation Formula:
Fabric consumption calculation is the most important matters in
apparel export business. if the calculated result is wrong, then there are too much possibility of fabric shortage or fabric wastage during apparel production which will directly influenced on profit percentage of that order. So, to get accurate fabric consumption result, it should be calculated by using proper method and actual formula.

Fabric Consumption Formula for Tops (T-Shirt, Polo Shirt, Sweat Shirt):
The apparel weight or fabric consumption for the total apparel parts can be found by the addition of “body weight” and “sleeve weight” which are calculated using the following formula. You may calculate both body weight and sleeve weight separately. After that, these are added together to get total fabric consumption results.
In case of sleeve weight,
{(S.L + H.A + S.A) × (Arm hole or sleeve opening + S.A) × G.S.M ×2× 2 (Sleeves)}
= …………………………………………………………………………………………………
1550 (If measurement in inch) or 10000 (If measurement in cm)
Here,
T.L means Total length,
H.A means Hem allowance,
S.A means
Seam allowance,
In case of body weight,
{(T.L + H.A + S.A) × (1/2 Chest + S.A) × G.S.M × 2}
= ……………………………………………………………………….………….
10000 (If measurement in cm) or 1550 (If measurement in inch)
Total Apparel Weight Calculation:
Total apparel weight = (Sleeve weight + Body weight)
The apparel weight can be calculated by combining the above two formulas into one formula is as follows:
Apparel weight,
[{T.L + S.L + (2× H.A) + (2 × S.A)} × (1/2 Chest + S.A)] × G.S.M × 2
= ……………………………………………………………………………………
10000 (If measurement in cm) or 1550 (If measurement in inch)
Fabric Consumption Calculation Formula for Pant or Bottom (Long Pant, Lingerie, Trouser):
Fabric consumption for long pant, lingerie or trouser,
{(T.L +H.A + S.A) × (Maximum with wise measure + S.A) × G.S.M × 2}
= ……………………………………………………………………………………….
1550 (If measurement in inch) or 10000 (If measurement in cm)
This is the general formula but may be modified depends on the style of the apparel.
