What is Yarn Count in Textile?
In textile industry, yarn count means the thickness of yarn which is determined by its mass per unit length.

In the other word, it is a numerical expression which indicates the fineness or coarseness of yarn. Normally yarn count is determined by following two methods named direct system (weight per unit length) and the other one is indirect system (length per unit weight).

Count Conversion Calculation for Textile Yarn ((Indirect to Direct and Direct to Indirect):

1. Indirect to Direct:
                (wk / wr)
Nr,= ……………………………
           {(lk / lr) × Nk}

Where,
Nr = Count of required system,
lr =   Unit length of required system,
wr = Unit weight of required system,
Nk =Count of known system,
wk =Unit length of known system,
lk = Unit length of known system.

2. Direct to Indirect:
                      (lk / lr)
Nr = ……………………………
             {(wk / wr ) × Nk}

How to Convert Denier to English Cotton Count?

Direct to direct system,

In English system,

Here,
lr = 840yds
wr = 1pound

In denier system,
wk = 1gm = (1/ 453.6gm) = 0.002204586 pound,
lk = 9000m = (9000 / 0.9144) yds = 9842.52 yds

Now,
                  (lk / lr)
Nr,= ………………………..………
         {(wk / wr ) × Nk}

Or,
                             (9842.52 / 840)
Ndenier= ………………………………………….……..
                    {(0.002204586 / 1) × Ne}
= 5315 / Ne

So,
Ndenier,× Ne = 5315

How to Convert Tex to English Cotton Count?

Direct to indirect system,

In English system,

lr = 840yds,
wr = 1 pound,

In tex system,
lk = 1000m = 1000 × 1.09yds = 1090yds,
wk = 1gm = (1/453.6gm) = 0.002204586 pound,

Now,
                   (lk / lr)
Nr = ………………………………………
           {(wk / wr ) × Nk}

Or,
                             (1090/840)
Ntex= ………………………………………………..
                    {(0.002204586/1) × Ne}
= 590.5/ Ne

So,
Ne × Ntex = 590.5
