How to Prepare Stock Solution in Textile Wet Processing Industry?

Preparation Method of Stock Solution in Textile:

Stock solution preparation is a common scenario in the textile dyeing industry. It has importance to complete the dyeing process. The preparation method of this should be known to all who want to make a career in the textile wet processing sector. In another article, I have shared two important topics i.e. dyeing recipe calculation method and lab dip calculation method. But, in this article, I have presented the preparation process of stock solutions in the textile industry.

Stock Solution Preparation Process in Textile:

In practice, a 1% stock solution is very common in the textile dyeing process. In textile dyeing laboratory work, 1gm solid (powder, 100% concentration) chemicals or dyestuff is taken in a conical flask and pour 100ml of warm (around 45°C) water and stir to dissolve the reagent to make 1% stock solution of that chemicals or dyes.

To prepare 0.1% stock solution, 10ml or 1ml of 1% solution needs to mix with 90ml or 9ml water respectively.

In case of liquid reagents,

For example,
Take 10ml acetic acid in a beaker, making it 100ml by pouring necessary amount of water is prepared 10% v/v acetic acid solution.

Dyeing Calculation in Textile:

Percentage amount respect to owg (on the weight of goods):
In the recipe, the percentage amount (on the weight of goods- fiber, yarn, fabric, garment) concerning the material is calculated with the below formula:

Required amount reagent,
=Material weight× recipe amount in percentage

For example,
The batch weight is 100kg and the shade percentage is 1.5%.

So,
The required amount of dyes,
= 100kg× 1.5%
= 1.5kg

In the case of laboratory dyeing,
The necessary amount of dyes and chemicals are very tiny taking this tiny amount to contain a higher error percent. Accordingly, the required amount of reagents is taken in a diluted form of different concentrations such as 0.1%, 1%, 10%, 20%, etc. In that case, the required amount of reagent is calculated by using the below formula:

Necessary amount of reagent,
Material weight × amount of recipe in percentage
=……………………………………………………………………………
                     The stock solution in percentage

For example,
5gm sample needs to dye whereas the shade (recipe amount) is 2% and stock solution concentration is 1%.

So,
By following the above formula we get,
Necessary amount of reagent,
     5×2%
=……….…..
     1%
= 10ml

Gm/ amount respect to liquor:
In the recipe the gm/l amount concerning the liquor is calculated with the following formula:

Required amount reagent,
= Total liquor in liter× recipe amount in gm/l

For example,
The batch weight is 100kg and leveling agent is 1.5gm/l and M: L is 1:10.

So,
The required amount of leveling agent,
= {(100×10 liter) × 1.5gm/l}
= 1500 grams
= 1.5 kg

For taking very small amount specially for laboratory purposes the below formula will be-

Necessary amount reagent,
Recipe amount in gm/l × total liquor
=………………………………………………….
                  Stock solution%

For example,
5gm sample needs to dye where leveling agent (amount of recipe) is 2gm/l, stock solution concentration is 1% and M: L is 1:10 respectively.

Now,
Following the above formula we get,
Necessary amount reagent,
   {2× (50 ml/1000 ml)}
=………………………..………….
               1%
    2× 0.05 l
=…………………………………..
        1%
= 10ml
