Yarn Count Conversion Calculation in Textile

English Count to Denier Conversion | English Count to Metric Count Conversion | Denier to Tex Conversion

What is Tex in Textile?
The yarn number in the tex system is the weight in grams of 1km or 1000m of yarn.

What is Denier of Yarn?
The yarn count in the denier system is the weight in grams of 9km or 9000m of yarn.

What is Metric Yarn Count in Textile?
It is defined as the number of hanks (1000m) per kg. it is denoted by Nm.

What is English Cotton Count in Textile?
It is defined as the number of hanks i.e. 840yds per pound. It is denoted by Ne.

Conversion of Yarn Count System (Indirect to Indirect and Direct to Direct):

1. Indirect to Indirect System:
              {(lk / lr) × Nk}
Nr,= …………………………
               (wk / wr)

Where,
Nr = Count of required system,
Nk = Count of known system,
lk = Unit length of known system,
lr = Unit length of required system,
wk = Unit length of known system,
wr = Unit weight of required system.

2. Direct to Direct:
          {(wk / wr) × Nk}
Nr,= ……………………………

                 (lk / lr)

Calculation of Conversion Factor:

1. How to Convert English Cotton Count to Metric?
Indirect to indirect system:
In English system,

Here,
Lk = 840yds  = 840 × 0.9144 × 103 km
wk = 1 pound

Now,
           {(lk / lr ) × Nk}
Nr,= …………………………
               (wk / wr)

Or,
              [{(840 × 0.9144 × 103 km) / 1km} × Ne]
Nm = …………………………………………………………………………
                         {(453.6 × 10-03 kg) / 1kg}
= 1.69 × Ne

So,
Nm = 1.69 × Ne

2. How to Convert Denier to Tex?
Direct to direct system,
In denier system,

wk = 1gm
lk = 900m

In tex system,
wr = 1 gm
lr = 1km = 1000m

Now,
           {(wk / wr) × Nk}
Nr,= ……………………………
                 (lk / lr)

Or,
              {(1gm / 1gm) × Ndenier}
Ntex = ……………………………………
                   (9000m / 1000m)
= Ndenier /9

So,
Ndenier = 9 × Ntex

3. How to Convert English Cotton Count to Denier?
Indirect to direct system,
In English system,

wk = 1 pound = 453.6gm
lk = 840yds = 840 × 0.9144m

In denier system,
wr = 1gm,
lr = 9000m

Now,
               (wk / wr)
Nr= ……………………………
           {(lk / lr) × Nk}

Or,
                                (453.6gm / 1gm)
Ndenier,= …………………………………………………….
                      [{(840 × 0.9144m) / 1m} × Ne]
= 5315 / Ne

So,
Ndenier, × Ne = 5315
