Productivity in Readymade Garment Sector:

In apparel manufacturing sector, apparel productivity can be calculated by using the below formula:

Apparel productivity= {(Output-hour/Input-hour) ×100}

Apparel production floor
Apparel production floor
Example-01:

A production line of Trina Fashion wear limited produces 250 dozens shelf camies by 30 operators in 10 hours. Standard time of shelf camies is 250 seconds. Calculate productivity for that production line.

Solution:
Number of garments= 250 dozen=250 ×12=3000 pcs
Number of operators=30,
Standard time= 250 seconds,

Total working time= 10,

Now,
Input-hour in second= (Number of operator × total working time×3600)
= (30×10×3600)

=1080000

Again,
Output-hour in second= (Number of garment ×standard time)
= (3000×250)

=750000

Now,
Apparel productivity= {(Output-hour/Input-hour) ×100}
= {(750000/1080000) ×100}

= 69.44%

So, line productivity of Trina Fashion wear limited is 69.44 per hour.

Example-02:
Rahela fashion wear limited has produced the below goods in a week of 60 hours. Statistics are given in the following table. Calculate the productivity.
SL No.
Item
Standard time
Quantity
No. of operator
01
T-Shirt
250sec
1800dz
30
02
Dress Shirt
1000sec
7200pcs
45
03
Shelf Cammy
250sec
1800dz
30
Solution:
Output-hour calculation in second,
1. Output-hour in second for T-Shirt= 1800×12×250=5400000sec,
2. Output-hour in second for Dress Shirt= 7200×1000= 7200000sec,

3. Output-hour in second for Shelf Cammy= 1800×12×250=5400000sec.

So, total Output-hour in second= (5400000+7200000+5400000) = 18000000sec.

Input-hour calculation in second= {(30+45+30) ×60×3600} = 22680000sec.

Now,
Apparel productivity= {(Output-hour/Input-hour) ×100}
= {(18000000/22680000) ×100}

= 79.36%

So, garment productivity for that factory stands at 79.36%

Example-03:
An operator of Jannat outer wear limited has the following works:
Sewing time= 25minute,
Machine breakdown= 1.5min,
Discussion with supervisor= 1min,
Rework= 2.5min,
Going to laboratory= 2min,

She completes 12pcs per day. Calculate here true productivity and overall productivity.

Solution:
Actual sewing time= 25min,
Ineffective time= (1.5+1+2.5+2) = 7min,
So, total time used (standard time) = (25+7) = 32min,

Working hour in a day= 10hours,

Now,
Output-hour in minute= (No. of garment × standard time) = (12×32) = 384min.

Input-hour in minute= ((Number of operator × total working time×60) = (1×10×60) = 600min.

So,

Overall productivity= {(Output-hour/Input-hour) ×100} = {(384/600) ×100} = 64%

And,
True productivity= {(Output hour×100)/ (Input hour-ineffective time)}
= {(384×100)/ (600-ineffective time)}
= [38400/ {600-(7×10)}]
= {38400/ (600-70)}
= 38400/530
=72.45%
