Types of Winding Machine

Classification of Winding Machine | Auxiliary Function of Winding

Winding Machine:
In textile sector, there are so many winding machines are used to transfer yarn from bobbin, hank etc into a suitable package. Every textile engineer should have clear idea about the classification of those winding machines which are presented in this article.

Types of Winding Machine:

Winding machine is classified into four types according to winding, package, drive and yarn (warp and weft) used. All of these have presented in the below:

(A) According to winding:
According to winding, winding machine is classified into two types. Those are-

  1. Precision winding machine,
  2. Non precision winding machine.

(B) According to package:
Winding machine is classified into five types according to package. Those are-

  1. Cone winding machine,
  2. Cop winding machine,
  3. Pirn winding machine,
  4. Flanged bobbin winding machine,
  5. Cheese winding machine.
(C) According to drive:
Winding machine is classified into two types according to drive. Those are-

1. Direct drive winding machine,
2. Indirect drive winding machine.

(D) According to types of yarn (warp and weft yarn) used:

In case of weft yarn:
  1. Cop winding m/c,
  2. Pirn winding m/c:
  • Automatic pirn winding m/c,
  • Ordinary pirn winding m/c.
In case of warp yarn:
  1. Upright spindle winding machine,
  2. Cylinder or drum winding machine:
  • Cone winding m/c,
  • Cheese winding m/c,
  • Warp winding /c,
  • Spool winding m/c.

Auxiliary Functions in Winding:

There are three important auxiliary functions in winding, which are pointed out in the below:
  1. Doffing,
  2. Creeling,
  3. Piecing.
All the above winding auxiliary functions have explained in the following:

1. Doffing:
The removal method of newly wound package and replacement of those by empty yarn package (package which are already used during winding of yarn) is known as doffing.

2. Creeling:
It is a method of placement so many full yarn package in the definite position to unwound yarn from those and wind in one package by transferring. In the other word, it is the removal method of the exhausted yarn packages and their replacement with full one package.

3. Piecing:
It is the finding and joining of the yarn ends on the yarn package. It should be noted here that, the connecting among the ends may be made by adhesion or welding and knotting.
