Drying System Used in Sizing Process

Combined Drying | Cylinder Drying | Infrared Drying | Hot Air Drying

Drying System Used in Sizing Process:
There are four types of drying system used in sizing process which are pointed out in the below:

  1. Combined drying,
  2. Cylinder drying,
  3. Infrared drying,
  4. Hot air drying.

All the above drying systems have explained in the following:

1. Combined Drying in Sizing:
In case of combined drying process, preheating is done in cylinder drying method and after that final drying is done by using infrared drying method or hot air drying method.

Advantages of Combined Drying in Sizing:
Some key advantages of combined drying process are-

  • Higher drying efficiency,
  • This process is too much speedy,
  • It is a regular drying process.
Disadvantages of Combined Drying in Sizing:
Common disadvantages of combined drying process are-

  • This process needs higher cost,
  • This process is produced shinning effect in warp yarn.
2. Cylinder Drying in Sizing:
Drying is done here by passing over the hot cylinders. This types of drying systems have classified into two types where one is two cylinder drying and another one is multi cylinder drying.

Two cylinder dying in Sizing:
Here, two copper cylinders are used. One is large in diameter and another is smaller than others. At first, warp yarn sheet is passed below small cylinder and then goes over the larger one. In this moment, yarn is dried during passing through the cylinder.

Advantages of Two Cylinders Dying in Sizing:
Some key advantages of two cylinder dying in sizing are-

  • This process is cheap,
  • It is a simple process,
  • This process is less risky.
Disadvantages of Two Cylinders Dying in Sizing:
The main disadvantages of two cylinder dying are-

  • It is a irregular drying process,
  • Lower drying efficiency,
  • It is a slow process.
Multi Cylinder Drying in Sizing:
This type of drying unit consists of 5 to 7 or 11 drying cylinders (same diameter).

Advantages of Multi Cylinder Drying in Sizing:
Different advantages of multi cylinder drying are-

  • Higher drying efficiency,
  • Drying uniformly,
  • It is a high speed process,
  • This process requires very less time.
Disadvantages of Multi Cylinders Dying in Sizing:
  • Shirring effect is produced here,
  • Yarn hairiness is produced here,
  • Stick property may have found due to high viscosity.
3. Infrared Drying in Sizing:
In case of infrared drying, the heating chamber comprised of a plate which is constantly heated by gas flame.

Advantages of Infrared Drying in Sizing:
  • Higher drying efficiency,
  • This process has no shinning effect.
Disadvantages of Infrared Drying in Sizing:
  • Cost is higher here,
  • More risk of accident,
  • Warp yarn may burn.
4. Hot Air Drying in Sizing:
In case of hot air drying process, the drying unit is composed of a very closed chamber which contains a no. of guide rollers through warp yarn passes.

Advantages of Hot Air Drying in Sizing:
  • This process has no shinning effect,
  • Drying speed is higher,
  • It is a regular drying process.
Disadvantages of Hot Air Drying in Sizing:
  • It is less suitable for fine warp yarn,
  • This process is very costly.
