Stitch Formation Technique of Spring Bearded Needle:
Spring bearded needle is vastly used in circular single knitting machine, warp knit tricot machine and flat bar full fashioning machine. It is one of the three types of knitting needle. This article has presented a necessary discussion on loop formation or stitch formation technique of spring bearded needle in textile knitting technology.

Knitting Action of Spring Bearded Needle in Textile Industry:
Stitch formation on a single needle bed weft knitting machine with spring bearded needles consists of the following stages:

  1. Yarn feeding or yarn laying,
  2. Yarn sinking or knitting,
  3. Under lapping,
  4. Pressing,
  5. Landing,
  6. Casting-off,
  7. Clearing.
All the above stages have explained in the below:

1. Yarn feeding or yarn laying:
In this stage, due to form a new loop, yarn is fed under the knitting sinker.

2. Yarn sinking or knitting:
In this situation, sinker among two needles falls down with the yarn and hold with the sinker throat. It is noted here that, depth of sinker determines the loop length i.e. the yarn length used to form knitted loop.
 
3. Under lapping:
Yarn laid or the needle stem and enters inside the needle beard by the withdrawn of sinker.

4. Pressing:
In this position, a needle tip beard is immersed in the needle grove by a pressure disc and the feed yarn is closed with the needle hook.

5. Landing:
Here, the needle old loops land on the beard by the pushing of cast off sinkers.

6. Casting-off:
Here, the cast off sinker pushed the new loop towards the tip of the needle after pressing the pressure disc. At the same time, the sinkers push the old loops off on the length of knitted new loop.

7. Clearing:
At this stage, the newly formed loops are pushed back along the needle stem towards the needle bed. Then the knitted loop called take down mechanism and the process of loop formation may be started again.
