Sizing Calculation Formula in Weaving:

To achieve the required quality sized yarn we have to know the calculation method of sizing in weaving. In another article, I have presented some mathematical problems and solutions to sizing. Now, this article presents some important formulas for sizing calculations, which are too much important to calculate sizing math.

All Sizing Calculation Formula with Examples:

1. Total length of yarn sized,
=Total length of warp × Number of ends

2. Total weight of size on the warp,
= Weight of sized warp – the weight of the unsized warp

3. The weight of size to be put on the warp,
= Weight of unsized warp × size% required to be put on the warp,

4. Weight of unsized warp in pounds,
    Length of warp in yds × Number of ends
=……………………………………………………………
                         840 × count

5. Weight of sized warp in the pound,
    Length of warp in yds × No. of ends
=……………………………………………………
                 840 × yarn count

6. Size% on the warp,
          Weight of size
=…………………………………. × 100%
    Weight of unsized warp

7. Count of sized yarn,
    Length of warp in yards × no. of ends
=………………………………………………….
    840 × weight of sized warp in pounds

8. Count of sized yarn,
    Count of unsized yarn × 100
=………………………………………..
               100 + Size%

9. Sizing efficiency,
= {Actual production/Calculated production) × 100}

Examples of Sizing Calculation in Weaving:

Example-01:
The actual production of the high-speed slasher is 35000 yards per day of 8 hours. Calculate sizing efficiency if calculated production is 100 yards per minute.

Solution:
Given that,
Calculated production in yards per minute= 50,
Calculated production in yards per hour= (100×60) = 6000 yards,
Actual production in yards per 8 hours= 35000,

Now,
Actual production in yards per hour= (35000/8) = 4375 yards,

So,
Sizing efficiency,
= {Actual production/Calculated production) × 100}
= {(4375/6000) × 100}
= 72.92%.

So, sizing efficiency for this calculation stands at 72.92%

Example-02:
If the following data is given then calculate the count of sized warp yarn:
Length of warp in yards= 1200,
Number of ends= 3000,
Weight of sized warp in pounds= 120.

 
Solution:
Count of sized yarn,
    Length of warp in yards × no. of ends
=…………………………………………………

    840 × weight of sized warp in pounds

    1200×3000
=……………………

     840×1203

=   35.71s

So, the count of sized warp yarn is 35.71s.
